M Leuven is a museum in the heart of the city of Leuven, Belgium dedicated to art, people and connection.
In 2024, they embarked on the Compassionate Workplaces programme, just as their organisation was undergoing a major transformation. With a new organisational structure, they wanted not only to collaborate more effectively, but also to be more mindful of well-being in the workplace.
The project came at just the right time, and yet it was also unexpected. Topics such as loss and grief hadn’t really been explicitly on their radar before, but that’s precisely why Museum M felt there was so much yet to explore.
Since then, Museum M colleagues have been working on the programme. Step by step, they are exploring what it means to be a more caring workplace, and how to put this into practice as an organisation.
The true value of the project became painfully clear to Museum M when they had to say goodbye to a colleague last year. Thanks to the insights and tools from the programme, they were able to deal with this in a warm and supportive way. This also gave life to the ‘Tree of Comfort’ in the museum garden: a place where there is space for remembrance, silence and connection.

At the same time, SKAG invests substantially in people and in creating a modern, supportive, and human-centered working environment. In this context, the company voluntarily participates, in collaboration with the Athens University of Economics and Business, in the European research program “EU-CoWork – Compassionate Workplaces” for the period 2024–2028.
Throughout the duration of the program so far, a series of meetings and workshops have been carried out between the SKAG team and the scientific team of the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB), aiming to map and strengthen the corporate culture in matters of practical support and compassion towards employees who are going through terminal illness, grieving or taking care of relatives. In parallel, extensive research and evaluation have been conducted through anonymous employee questionnaires and personal interviews, with the objective of identifying real needs, challenges, and opportunities for improving the working environment.
Based on the analysis of the findings already obtained, the SKAG team, under the scientific guidance of AUEB, is proceeding with the development of potential proposals and practical interventions aimed at strengthening employee well-being, empathy, collaboration, and psychological resilience. This initiative forms part of SKAG’s broader strategy for sustainable and human-centered growth, where the company’s progress is directly linked to the development and care of its people.
